Trumpcare 2.0: People will die

Senate Democrats held an all-night session on June 26, 2017 to voice their concerns about the Senate’s revised version of Trumpcare. Some of the floor speeches can be viewed below. A copy can be found here: “Senate Healthcare Discussion Draft [Revised], H.R. 1628”, June 26, 2017 (145 pages)

The CBO report can be found here: “Cost Estimate of H.R. 1628 Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017,” by Congressional Budget Office (CBO); June 26, 2017 (49 pages)

The CBO issued a four page update to their review of the revised version of the Senate healthcare draft. That publication can be found here:

There aren’t a whole lot more ways to say that Trumpcare is a piece of shit that haven’t already been said. You can read what I said about it here: “Trumpcare: The Sociopath’s Guide to Healthcare”; I also wrote about it here: “Trump’s Budget and Healthcare Plan are Economic Terrorism”.

Trumpcare is beyond bad, beyond mean; it is flat-out evil. People will die. Trumpcare is proof that these Republicans don’t give a shit about everyday Americans. They use terms like “pro-life” to get gullible voters to blindly support and vote for them – that’s all “pro-life” means to Republicans – and Trumpcare proves it. You simply cannot be pro-life and support legislation that kills people – including children, and yes – babies.

Time after time, these Republicans have shown a complete disregard for the lives and well-being of all Americans – except for themselves, and their true constituents: the wealthy. Make no mistake, when Republicans refer to Americans (“These tax cuts will be good for Americans”) they aren’t referring to all Americans; they aren’t referring to millions of Republican voters; they are only referring to their true base, their only constituents that they care about: the richest of the rich.

Trumpcare is proof that these Republicans are heartless sociopaths who don’t care that people will die from their legislation.

Trumpcare: The Sociopath’s Guide to Healthcare

Trump’s Budget and Healthcare Plan are Economic Terrorism

The Senate Republicans want to vote on Trumpcare by July 4, 2017. Here is the number for the switchboard to call your Senators:

202-224-3121.

Tell your Senators to vote No on Trumpcare. When you call, please refer to it as “The Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017” (or BCRA). Although it is currently referred to as H.R. 1628, this may change as the bill reaches the Senate floor for a vote.

Sen. Mazie Hirono: ‘I have cancer’- Healthcare is a right and Trumpcare denies that” (6:09)

Sen. Mazie Hirono reveals that she was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer during the Senate floor all-night floor speeches on Trumpcare held on June 26, 2017. Anyone who has looked at the Republican Senate Healthcare plan knows that this is not a healthcare bill – it is a tax cut bill for the wealthiest Americans. “Trumpcare would be a disaster for the American people … healthcare is a right for everyone … we must fight against this mean, ugly bill.”

Sen. Edward Markey: Trumpcare is a death sentence, June 26, 2017” (14:14)

In many ways, the Senate version of healthcare is “even worse than expected. It’s no wonder the Senate Republicans kept this legislative malpractice hidden behind closed doors. For working families, and elderly, for the disabled, and those suffering from opioid addiction, this legislation is a death sentence.”  Sen. Edward Markey speaks truthfully about the true nature of the Republican Senate version of Trumpcare during a late night session June 26, 2017. “This bill abandons anyone with pre-existing conditions … It punishes grandma and grandpa who live in a nursing home – who are on Medicaid. It causes the single greatest rollback of civil rights for people with disabilities – IN A GENERATION – by taking away funding for those with disabilities. It creates an Age Tax for anyone over the age of fifty. It shreds a critical healthcare program for the disabled, working families, children – just to bestow a tax break for the wealthiest in our country… the richest 400 billionaires in the United States will get a tax break of more than $33 billion … just 400 billionaires in America … which they don’t need and they don’t deserve. That’s at the heart of this Republican healthcare bill: it’s it is all about: this legislation is of the rich, by the rich, for the rich: it’s a wealthcare bill for the upper 1% in our country – and it says to everyone else – ‘You’re healthcare is going to suffer in order to take care of that 1% with their tax breaks; it’s more than a more than $500 billion tax break to corporations and for individuals making $200,000 a year or more.’”

Sen. Warren: Trumpcare isn’t supposed to improve healthcare, it’s a tax cut for the rich” (10:06)

“Republicans can’t name one thing in this bill that will improve healthcare in America – that’s because this bill is not supposed to improve healthcare in America, it is not a healthcare bill, it’s a tax cut for the rich paid for by gutting the healthcare of millions of Americans.”  Sen. Elizabeth Warren speaks out against Senate Trumpcare 2.0 during a late night session on June 26, 2017. This bill has been denounced by every medical and patient advocacy organization.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen: Trumpcare stinks and the American people know it” (13:25)

Sen. Chris Van Hollen names medical and patient advocacy organizations that oppose Trumpcare during a late night session on the Senate floor on June 26, 2017. “The American Cancer Society; The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association, The American Lung Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness; National Breast Cancer Coalition; National Multiple Sclerosis Society; and the list goes on and on – from organizations that have dedicated themselves to advancing health.” And on the other side: not a single patient advocacy group comes out in favor of the “so-called healthcare bill.”

Sen. Bob Casey illustrates what’s wrong with Trumpcare and how it hurts real people” (18:15)

Senator Bob Casey breaks down Trumpcare and explains the defects in it. No one does this better:, soft-spoken Bob Casey combines empathy, compassion, and clarity to illustrate exactly what is wrong with Trumpcare and how it affects real people and the pain and anxiety this legislation has already caused. His floor speech took place during an all-night floor session of the Senate on June 26, 2017.

Sen. Bernie Sanders: There are 22 million reasons why Trumpcare shouldn’t see the light of day” (11:48)

Bernie Sanders knows that Trumpcare is nothing more than a tax cut for the rich and not a single patient advocacy and medical organization supports this legislation. Every major health care organization says do not go forward with this disastrous bill.” During a late night session on June 26, 2017, Bernie quotes from the AARP: “This is what the AARP (the largest senior group in America) said recently: ‘This new Senate bill was crafted in secrecy behind closed doors – without a single hearing or open debate – and it shows. The Senate bill would hit millions of Americans with higher costs and result in less coverage for them. AARP is adamantly opposed to the Age Tax which would allow insurance companies to charge older Americans five times more for coverage than everyone else while reducing tax cuts for the rich.’”

Sen. Brian Schatz: Trumpcare is not a healthcare bill, it’s a tax cut for the rich” (7:25)

The rich are the only ones who gain anything from Trumpcare; they will get a giant tax break at the expense of the health of everyone else. Anyone who has looked at the Republican Senate Healthcare plan knows that this is not a healthcare bill – it is a tax cut bill for the wealthiest Americans. Sen. Brian Schatz explains that his wife’s grandmother was in a nursing home and Medicaid helped pay for that bill; he points out that “This bill devastates Medicaid: it will lose $800 billion.”

Sen. Al Franken opposes Trumpcare: it’s a matter of life or death” (14:33)

Sen. Al Franken seems at a loss of words: “This bill is mean … I don’t like to characterize something that way – but it is mean.” Senator Franken spoke during an all-night floor Senate session on June 26, 2017 against Trumpcare. He emphasized personal stories of real people whose lives were saved by Medicaid.  He explained that insurance means life or death to them and that Trumpcare will cause people to die. People are scared because they understand what Trumpcare would mean to them if it passes.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal: Don’t hurt the American People with Trumpcare” (18:10)

Senator Richard Blumenthal spoke against Trumpcare during an all-night session on June 26, 2017. He related personal stories from his constituents about the harm that Trumpcare will case if it passes. “First do harm,” he said, “don’t hurt the American people.” Trumpcare will do that if it passes.

Senators Tester and Bennet join with Patients Groups to speak against Trumpcare” (28:37)

Senators Bennet and Tester are joined by members of some of the more than 60 patients and consumer groups from across the country, each with their own personal health care story. They are in Washington, D.C. this week to urge their senators to preserve quality health care access and coverage for millions of Americans and to vote against Trumpcare. The efforts are being organized by more than a dozen different patient and public interest groups, including the American Cancer Society, Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Consumers Union, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
